Sungai Watch is an environmental nonprofit organization based in Indonesia, working to stop plastic pollution from entering the ocean through rivers. Our work combines river barriers, cleanups, waste sorting, community engagement, research and advocacy. We are entering an ambitious phase of growth, expanding our programs across Indonesia while strengthening the international funding and support structures behind our work. This growth brings increasing financial complexity and requires disciplined planning, strong controls and scalable systems. The successful candidate will oversee a substantial and growing operating budget and provide the financial leadership needed to support responsible and sustainable expansion. Sungai Watch operates through separate nonprofit structures in Indonesia (Yayasan) and internationally (501c3 in the USA). The role will help coordinate these structures while ensuring that each maintains appropriate financial records, approvals, compliance and governance.

Tanggung jawab: Financial Strategy and Expansion Planning; Lead annual budgeting and build a rolling financial model covering three years and aligned with Sungai Watch's organizational strategy; Prepare scenario analyses for regional expansion, major projects, capital investments, new hires and other significant commitments; Develop project and grant budgets with program and partnership teams, including full cost allocation, indirect cost recovery and long term operating obligations; Create useful unit cost and efficiency analysis across regions, programs, sorting stations and other core activities; Identify funding gaps early and recommend realistic financing plans, pacing decisions and risk mitigations; Advise the founders and governing bodies on liquidity, reserves and a responsible investment policy, using licensed external advisers when specialist advice is required; Forecasting and Management Reporting; Maintain a cash forecast covering the next 13 weeks and a liquidity forecast for the medium term across relevant entities and currencies; Produce a concise monthly management pack covering financial position, cash flow, budget performance, grant utilization, restricted funds, forecast changes, risks and recommended actions; Provide timely analysis to department and regional leaders and help them understand and manage their budgets; Present clear quarterly financial and risk reporting to the relevant governing bodies; Monitor foreign exchange exposure, donation platform costs and banking charges and recommend practical improvements; Accounting Controls and Audit; Lead, support and develop the accounting team, ensuring clear responsibilities, strong performance and effective management of daily financial operations; Establish and monitor coordinated monthly and annual closing calendars across all entities, reviewing the accuracy and completeness of financial statements, reconciliations and supporting schedules; Ensure that each entity complies with the accounting, tax, audit and nonprofit reporting requirements applicable in its jurisdiction, with support from qualified local advisers where needed; Oversee audit readiness and coordinate external audits or financial reviews for all current and future entities, managing auditor requests, tracking findings and ensuring that corrective actions are completed on time; Strengthen internal controls, delegations of authority, banking access, fraud prevention, documentation and segregation of duties across the organization; Maintain audit ready records and a complete calendar of financial and regulatory obligations for each entity; Grant and Donor Finance; Review the financial terms, budgets, reporting obligations, currency exposure and compliance risks of proposed grants and major partnerships before submission or acceptance, including confirmation of the appropriate legal entity; Establish consistent tracking across all relevant entities for restricted and unrestricted funds, grant expenditure, commitments, transfers, required matching funds, remaining balances and reporting deadlines; Monitor financial performance against grant budgets and forecasts, identifying underspending, overspending, funding gaps and compliance risks early and recommending corrective action; Lead the financial components of grant proposals and donor reports, working with program and partnership teams to ensure accurate and timely submissions; Ensure that project and grant budgets reflect the full cost of delivery and include a fair contribution toward shared organizational and administrative costs; International Finance and Entity Coordination; Coordinate the financial administration and compliance of the organization’s international nonprofit structure, including its current US 501(c)(3) structure and any additional entities established in the future, while respecting each entity’s separat; Prepare financial, cash flow, grant monitoring and governance reporting for the relevant entities and governing bodies, working with qualified accountants, tax advisers and legal counsel in each jurisdiction; Review and improve international donation routes, platforms, payment processors and banking arrangements based on compliance, cost, currency, donor experience and administrative burden; Maintain clear documentation for grants, shared costs, transactions between entities, approvals and governing body decisions; Coordinate specialist advice and ensure that recommendations are implemented, without being expected to personally provide legal, tax or regulated investment advice outside the candidate’s professional qualifications; Procurement and Adviser Management; Lead and develop the purchasing function and establish clear service standards, responsibilities and accountability; Set practical purchasing thresholds, quotation and tender requirements, vendor due diligence standards and contract approval workflows; Analyze spend, pricing, supplier concentration and purchasing patterns to identify savings, consolidation opportunities and operational risks without compromising program quality; Ensure clear separation between requesting, sourcing, approving, receiving, recording and paying for goods and services; Manage working relationships with accountants, auditors, tax consultants, legal advisers and other specialists, including scope, timelines, costs and implementation of advice; Team Leadership and Organizational Contribution; Set clear objectives, responsibilities and development plans for finance, accounting and purchasing team members; Build practical procedures, templates, calendars and backup coverage for every critical process; Create a finance function that supports operational teams while maintaining appropriate discipline and controls; Participate actively in senior leadership decisions and provide an independent professional opinion when financial or governance risks arise; Spend sufficient time with regional and field teams to understand the operational realities behind the numbers.

Kualifikasi: Essential Experience and Qualifications; Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field, or equivalent professional experience; At least five years of progressive finance experience, including at least five years in a senior finance leadership role; Full professional fluency in written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia and English is mandatory.
