Project Metallurgist

This role is responsible for leading metallurgical projects, process improvement initiatives, and plant expansion programs to enhance operational performance and long-term business value. The Project Metallurgist designs and executes process trials, evaluates emerging technologies, develops technical and economic studies, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of innovative metallurgical solutions that support safe, efficient, and sustainable plant operations.

Some of your duties will include: Design, plan, and execute metallurgical process trials and testing programs to evaluate process improvements and new operating methods. Identify and implement opportunities for plant optimization, process enhancement, and continuous improvement to maximize recovery, throughput, and operational efficiency.

Evaluate emerging technologies, equipment, and innovative metallurgical practices for application within the processing plant. Prepare technical assessments and CAPEX/OPEX studies to support plant upgrades, debottlenecking initiatives, and expansion projects. Conduct technical and economic evaluations, including feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses, to support project decision-making.

Coordinate and manage metallurgical project activities to ensure successful delivery within agreed scope, schedule, and budget. Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, laboratory personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved and project outcomes are effectively integrated into plant operations. Liaise with external consultants, technology providers, equipment vendors, and research institutions to support innovation and project execution.

Ensure all projects comply with company policies, health and safety requirements, environmental standards, and industry best practices while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. What skills and experience do you need? Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
